It was with great honor that our firm, Oikonomakis Law, participated as the legal representative of the Hellenic-Indian Chamber of Commerce and Economy in the event titled: “EUTOPIA” – Hellenic-Indian Cooperation in Employment, which took place on May 30, 2025, at the Divani Caravel Hotel.
“EUTOPIA” was introduced as a digital platform designed to connect Greek employers with selected workers from third countries, with India being the first country of collaboration.
Our firm was represented at the event by our General Director and Legal Advisor, Ms. Maria Kokkoraki; the Head of our Business Projects and Investments Department, Ms. Pinelopi Oikonomaki; and one of our attorneys and firm partners, Ms. Maria Myrsini Micha, who contributed to the discussion with a detailed analysis of the legal aspects involved in the transfer of labor from India to Greece, emphasizing the prerequisites for residence permit issuance and the rights of workers during their stay and employment in the country.
The discussion was both productive and constructive, as the President of the Hellenic-Indian Chamber outlined the goals of the event and presented the “EUTOPIA” initiative, followed by contributions from key representatives of critical ministries and major stakeholders, who elaborated on the framework within which Greek-Indian actions and collaborations are taking place.
Specifically, a representative from the Ministry of Labor and Social Security explained the legal context and the rights and obligations of employment; a representative from the Ministry of Migration and Asylum discussed the procedures for labor migration, residence permits, and integration practices for foreign workers; a representative from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs addressed bilateral relations between Greece and India and the means of facilitating relevant processes; and a representative from the Ministry of Rural Development and Food described the labor needs of the agricultural sector and how foreign labor can contribute.
Additionally, the Secretary General of the Chamber and representatives from employer organizations offered guidance and shared insights from similar initiatives.
Representatives from educational institutions and certification bodies analyzed the training needs across industries, available training programs, and the benefits of certification for both employers and workers.
The event also featured time for questions, discussion, and networking, providing our firm with the opportunity to showcase its commitment to supporting structured processes and the development of international partnerships.
Our participation in the event served as a valuable opportunity to strengthen dialogue around migrant labor and its legal dimensions, while also underlining our dedication to actively supporting initiatives that promote transparency, legality, and sustainable growth through international cooperation.
We remain committed allies in every effort that contributes to the institutional and practical support of such innovative programs.
